Heitor Villa-Lobos
Often described as “the single most significant creative figure in 20th century Brazilian art music,” Villa-Lobos has become the best known and most significant Latin American composer to date.A Tribute to Heitor Villa-Lobos at the United Nations – Art exhibition from October 26 to November 06, 2009.
On October 30, 2009, the United Nations will be hosting a unique celebration of Villa-Lobos’ life and legacy. During that night (an open to the public), soprano Caroline Braga, tenor Denis Hurtado, guitarist Daniel Duarte, and pianist Livia Sandoval will perform some of Villa-Lobos’ most well known works.
This celebration of Villa-Lobos’ body of work is also an inspiration to an exciting exhibition of paintings, bronze and wood sculptures, and works on fabric and paper by Brazilian artists of all backgrounds and locations.
These most notable artists include: Ferjo, Alexandre Emmanuel, Artur Moreira, Cassia Maia, Flory Menezes, Cila Santos, Ed Ribeiro, Arlete Costa, Luciano Lima Lima, Arnaldo Garcez, Astride Rosa, Junia d’Affonseca, Deborah Costa, Isabel Amaro, Ricardo Nascimento, Iris Alvares, Sandra Romano, Maria Antonia, D. Finotto, Shizue, Laila Guimaraes, Lucia Tolentino, Gzanotti, Ce Granito. Institute Dirson Costa de Arte e Cultura Amazonicas: Indigenous Brazilians from the Amazon Duhigo, Dhiani Pa’saro, Sanipa, Too=2 0Xacwa, Yupury, Tchanpan, Kawena.
The reception is free and open to the public.
It takes place on October 30th, 2009 from 6PM -9PM at United Nations at the Secretariat Lobby in the Secretariat building at the United Nations Headquarters. Entrance is on 46th Street and 1st Ave.
